The department of Anatomical Pathology began offering diagnostic surgical pathology and cytology services in June 2012. Prior to the establisment of the Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Ogbomoso there was no laboratory service in Anatomical Pathology. The Baptist Medical Centre Ogbomoso, as it was then called, however had diagnostic services available in the Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Medical Microbiology departments.
Our Anatomical Pathology service laboratory currently processes samples received from clinicians in the BUTH, Ogbomoso as well as from private and public medical establishments in Ogbomoso and from neighbouring cities as far afield as Ilorin. In addition to routine diagnostic services, frozen section facilities are also available for intraoperative consultation to the hospital.
The department also has a mortuary with facilities for body storage and autopsy. The Anatomical Pathology teaching laboratory of the College of Medicine, Bowen University is also located within the premises of BUTH, ogbomoso. It is fully equipped with teaching facilities for the undergraduate medical students of the university, including an organ museum and set of teaching slides.
