Bowen University Teaching Hospital officially welcome the new Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, lwo, Prof J. O. Babalola, FAS. The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor visited the Hospital on Thursday, 29th August 2023, with some notable personnel of the University. A joint ceremonial parade was carried out in honour of the Vice-Chancellor by the security team in the Hospital and University to officially welcome him to the Hospital. Following, the ceremonial parade, a meeting was held with the Hospital Management at the Administrative Conference Room. The Vice-Chancellor was introduced to the Hospital Management by Dr. O. T. Awotunde, the Ag.Provost, College of Health Sciences, BUI, while other members of staff present were duly introduced. There was opening remark by Chief Medical Director, Prof. A.D. OlaOlorun where he expressed his deepest appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for his maiden visit and assessment of infrastructural facilities in the Hospital. He gave a brief history of (BUTH) which was formerly known as Baptist Medical Centre. He narrated briefly the foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention sent Dr. & Mrs. George Green, the first medical missionary to Africa and arrived at Ogbomoso on the 18th March, 1907 from the United States of American. The mission work started and that birthed Baptist Medical Centre which was transformed into Bowen University Teaching Hospital in 2009 following its accreditation by the National University Commission (NUC).
In recognition of his visit, the Hospital Management through the Director of Administration, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayo-Bello presented a gift to the Vice-Chancellor, and wished him a successful tenure.
In his rejoinder, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Hospital Management for the warm reception and presentation of gift. He promised to give his best as he would be applying scale of preference due to paucity of funds. The Vice-Chancellor had an interactive session with the academic staff, non-academic staff and students with a facility tour after the meeting.
During the interactive session with the students, the President of Bowen Baptist Students Fellowship presented a gift to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the students of the College of Health Sciences as they wished him a blissful time in office.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. A. O Ogunlaja led the team for a facility tour which commenced from the private delivery room, Oral Maxillofacial Radiology unit, Ayandiran and Mildred Doctors House, Male and Female Hostels and skill laboratory. The team were impressed about the new development in the Hospital and appreciated Ayandiran Foundation for the donation.
